Relevant Footsteps has served primarily people living in the United States for 20 years, both under the auspices of church elders and more recently as a stand-alone nonprofit ministry.
Teams are small but focused, completing a variety of construction projects, community outreach activities (i.e. dental and veterinary clinics, cooking), and ladies events. Groups have worked with several Navajo preachers on their compounds in Kinlichee, and Many Farms, AZ, and HogBack and Crownpoint, NM. Related projects have also been completed in Gallup and Albuquerque, NM, in South Texas, along the Mexico border, and on the Cherokee Indian Reservation in North Carolina.
Our service areas have commonalities: they are third world cultures within the US, they are cultures of poverty, they are quite matriarchal, with the natural conflicts that arise as they interact with the white "Christian" patriarchal population that surrounds them. Determining and maintaining their identities, their inherent value and purpose as God created them, all the while being subjugated by the dominant white culture is a life-long challenge for both these populations. It is a challenge we feel compelled to support. By providing physical needs and establishing relationships lives are enriched and improved - on both sides of the equation.
The need among Navajo and indigenous people groups is great, and the isolation and discouragement felt by those living in our target areas is significant. Interest in being part of the solution is growing, and it's not confined to members of a single Christian denomination. Relevant Footsteps encourages multi-denominational involvement, to potentially reach and benefit more of the Native American and Hispanic communities through various outreach efforts conducted in those areas.
Relevant Footsteps invites you to participate in our adventures. Together, let's see where God takes our steps!
